Fixture types can be divided into:

① Universal fixture. For example, machine vice, chuck, suction cup, indexing head and rotary table have great versatility and can better adapt to the transformation of processing procedures and processing objects. Their structure has been finalized, and their dimensions and specifications have been serialized. Most of them have become a standard accessory of machine tools.

② Special fixture. It is specially designed and manufactured for the clamping of certain product parts in a certain process. The service object is specific and highly targeted. It is generally designed by the product manufacturer itself. Commonly used are lathe fixtures, milling machine fixtures, drill jigs (machine tool fixtures used to guide the tool to drill or ream holes on the workpiece), boring dies (machine tool fixtures used to guide the boring bar to bore holes on the workpiece) and traveling fixtures (mobile fixtures used for the automatic line of combined machine tools).

③ Adjustable fixture. A special fixture that can replace or adjust elements.

④ Combined fixture. The fixture composed of standardized components with different shapes, specifications and uses is applicable to the trial production of new products and the single piece, small batch production and temporary tasks for which products are frequently replaced.
